You're invited to the California Bach Society (CBS) Concert this Friday!!
Many thanks to Helen Brown and CBS! This Friday, the California Bach Society will perform some beautiful and moving 20th century British masterpieces. Ralph Vaughan Williams’s beautiful Mass in G minor is written in a modal style that evokes Tallis and Byrd. His juxtaposition of chant and choral antiphony makes the old sound new, akin to his Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis. We open the program with the double choir Nunc Dimittis by Gustav Holst to whom Vaughan Williams had dedicated his Mass in 1921. The 30-voice choir is joined by fine soloists: soprano Victoria Fraser, alto Jose Barbasa, tenor Julian Kusnadi, and bass Clayton Moser.
